ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - In Wednesday's debate on the government's bill of amendments to the law on formerly war-affected areas, MPs once again pointed to imprecisely set criteria whereby new municipalities would fall under the
category of these areas of special government concern. The opposition's Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) maintains the imprecise criteria would make abuse possible, and that laws on such a sensitive issue must not be passed without a broad sociological, demographic, and economic analysis. The HDZ further says that both the parliament and government should decide which municipalities and towns are areas of special state concern. Zeljko Pavlic of the ruling coalition's Social Liberals (HSLS) concurred, but welcomed the bill, voicing confidence it would balance the level of development of specific Croatian regions.(hina) ha sb
