ZAGREB, Dec 26 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday sent a letter to his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami offering condolences on behalf of all Croatian citizens and his own on a devastating earthquake which hit the
south-eastern part of Iran on Friday, the President's Office said in a statement.

a letter to his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami offering
condolences on behalf of all Croatian citizens and his own on a
devastating earthquake which hit the south-eastern part of Iran on
Friday, the President's Office said in a statement.#L#
According to the latest reports, at least 4,000 people were killed and
more than 30,000 were injured in the earthquake which hit the
historical city of Bam, Iran's tourist attraction located around 1,000
kilometres south of Tehran. It is feared that the number of victims
could be much higher.
Around 60 percent of buildings in the city were destroyed in the
earthquake, which measured 6.3 degrees on the Richter scale. The
historical citadel Arg-e-Bam, considered part of Iran's and world
cultural heritage, was destroyed as well.
