GERMAN DIPLOMATIC SOURCES RAP HSP CHIEF OVER HIS LETTER

ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - An attempt of Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) president Anto Djapic to discredit the work of the German embassy in Zagreb is unfair, German diplomatic sources in the Croatian capital said on Friday.
ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - An attempt of Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) president Anto Djapic to discredit the work of the German embassy in Zagreb is unfair, German diplomatic sources in the Croatian capital said on Friday. #L# German Ambassador to Zagreb Gebhardt Weiss and the HSP chief Djapic have recently exchanged several letters either directly or via the media regarding the possibility of this right-wing party's entry into the new government and the HSP political programme. On Wednesday Djapic sent a letter to Ambassador Weiss criticising him for failing to inform the German government in a fair manner on political developments in Croatia and in his party. The German diplomatic sources on Friday criticised Djapic for trying to discredit the work of the German embassy in Zagreb, and added that he did not have full insight into the work of the embassy. According to the same source, the tactical purpose of Djapic's attempt was to present a letter Weiss had sent to him as unimportant. On the other hand, the decision of the HSP to delete the 'Election Programme' from its web site testifies to the fact that the German ambassador's letter was not politically irrelevant, the source said. The diplomat recalls that during the pre-election campaign, the HSP completely changed the layout of its web site and its 'Election Programme' appeared at the very beginning of the site. In the run-up to the parliamentary polls, the Election Programme drew readers' attention to some issues. The said programme contained direct and implicit messages about intolerance, the diplomat said. The speedy deletion of the 'Election Programme' shows that the HSP leadership has realised that it must distance itself from that document, the source said, wondering "why the party didn't do it earlier, before the election."
