ZAGREB, Dec 15 (Hina) - Vladimir Seks of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) and Mato Arlovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)
held the second preparatory meeting in parliament on Monday ahead
of a final agreement on the division of positions of parliament
vice-presidents and members of parliamentary committees between
the ruling parties and the opposition. #L#
Before the final agreement, the heads of all parties in the new
parliament will hold a meeting tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,
as will the heads of all clubs of deputies. In any case, the
agreement should be reached this week, before the constituent
session of the fifth parliament, which is scheduled for 22
December.
Neither Seks nor Arlovic believe that the Croatian Party of Rights'
proposal that the new parliament president be elected in a secret
vote from among candidates nominated by the HDZ and the opposition
would be accepted.
Seks said that such a procedure was possible although not probable,
while Arlovic said that the HSP's proposal was interesting, but not
realistic as the HDZ, as the strongest party, had the right to elect
the parliament president.
