The reorganisation of the state administration is necessary, as is
the reduction of the number of ministries and the implementation of
launched and announced reforms, but abolishing the tourism
ministry as a separate ministry would be a grave mistake, the union
said.
Tourism accounts for a major portion of state revenue, contributes
to employment and is the best promoter of domestic production,
transport, and communication. A separate tourism ministry is still
needed so tourism could have direct influence on the executive
authorities and be represented by professionals, the union says.
The post of tourism minister should not be abolished but the
minister should also be given the post of vice-premier in view of
the importance of tourism in the economic development.
There are some 40,000 people employed in hotels, restaurants and
tourist agencies, and another 40,000 in small businesses and
trades, the union says, calling on the premier-designate to consult
with tourist associations before making a decision.
