Pula on Monday Istria County was ready to call a referendum on the
county's regional autonomy should future treatment of Istria be

Commenting on speculations that Pula's air base would become one of
NATO's air bases after Croatia joined the Alliance, prefect
Jakovcic said the county strongly supported Croatia's joining NATO
but opposed that any NATO military base be located in Istria. "We
want to develop tourism, which is simply incompatible with the
militarisation of this region," Jakovic said.
"We will give the new prime minister 100 days to show interest in
cooperation with Istria County. Bearing in mind the announcements
that the new premier-designate will be Ivo Sander, his statements
don't fill me with much hope," Jakovcic said.
