ZAGREB, Dec 12 (Hina) - Occupational and working environment health is an integral factor of modern management, which is increasingly focused on workers' health both for humane as well as business reasons, it was said at a meeting called "Occupational Health - A Necessary Factor of Economy", which started in Zagreb on Friday. #L# However, these trends are not sufficiently present in Croatia, where occupational diseases are not recognised as a public health problem, which is why measures of health protection and prevention of occupational diseases do not exist. It is therefore necessary that Croatia adjust its data on occupational diseases and injuries to those in the European Union, it was said. Experts participating in the meeting said that as in EU countries Croatian workers, too, had to be educated about occupational and general health risks. According to data of the Croatian Health Insurance Agency for 2002, 53,000 workers were on sick leave every day. It is estimated that some US$265 million of GDP is lost annually due to sick leave.
