GENEVA, Dec 10 (Hina) - The work of the Red Cross in Croatia and the engagement of this humanitarian organisation in Afghanistan and Iraq were the main topics of the talks which Croatian President Stjepan Mesic held with the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, in Geneva on Wednesday. #L# Mesic arrived in Geneva to take part in the World Summit on Information Society, which has pooled officials from over 120 countries, and representatives of international organisations, non-governmental organisations and the media. During the Homeland Defence War in Croatia the ICRC was active in the country as well as in the entire area of the former Yugoslavia. Currently it helps in efforts to solve the problem of missing persons, refugees and displaced persons. The ICRC mission will soon end, and its remaining activities will be taken over by the Regional Centre in Budapest. After the meeting with Kellenberger, the Croatian head of state visited the Geneva-based headquarters of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), where he and his hosts discussed the reforms which Croatia had carried out in the areas of social welfare and labour.
