ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - All officials from the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) will make their mandates available to the new government in line with good democratic practice, HSS leader Zlatko Tomcic said during a break in a session of the party's presidency on Tuesday evening. #L# Tomcic dismissed media speculations that 100 or as many as 200 state officials are from the HSS and that they will keep their positions despite the change of authority. Only some 20 such officials are from the HSS, Tomcic said, adding that all HSS members would make their mandates available after some ministries and positions were established and new officials were appointed to ministries and the public sector. The HSS leader resolutely dismissed media reports that he and his party "would like to continue sitting on two chairs", namely that he and Croatian Democratic Union leader Ivo Sanader had made an under the counter deal enabling HSS members who are directors of public institutions and companies or assistant ministers to keep their posts. Should some of the HSS's experts be needed by the new government, separate talks will be held on that matter, Tomcic said. He reiterated that his party was joining the opposition, but that it would vote for Sanader's government when the vote on that matter was taken in parliament. The HSS's support does not imply any other obligation, Tomcic repeated, adding that his party would vote for the laws and decisions which it considered good, and oppose those which it considered poor.
