ZAGREB, Nov 26 (Hina) - Sunday's parliamentary election in Croatia
is a new step towards democratisation of Croatian society and a
contribution to the process of transition of the country, the
leading Catholic weekly "Glas Koncila" said in an editorial in its
latest issue on Wednesday. #L#
The editorial, headlined "Searching for Real Changes", said that
voters, craving for real changes, awarded the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) for its efforts to rid itself of those who used their
"Croatianness" for their own benefit, and the Croatian Party of
Rights (HSP) for its diligence in parliament. Justifiably unhappy
with their pension status, voters also cast their ballots for the
Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) to represent them in parliament.
Explaining the reasons for the electorate's lack of confidence in
the previous coalition government, the editorial said that the
coalition's "statistics show that life in Croatia is better, but
people are not aware of it" rhetoric obviously was not accepted by a
majority.
"Most people do not agree with (the coalition's) lack of respect for
Croatian dignity, war veterans and the importance of the Homeland
War, nor can they tolerate the spectre of communism rearing its
head," Glas Koncila said.
