ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, Nov 26 (Hina) - Former Croatian Serb leader Milan
Babic, charged with committing war crimes in Croatia in 1991 and
1992, will enter a plea at the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague at
1500 hours on Wednesday, the tribunal announced. #L#
Babic was indicted for crimes against humanity and violations of
the laws and customs of war committed from 1 August 1991 to 15
February 1992 when most of the Croats and other non-Serb people were
driven out of Serb-occupied areas of Croatia.
The five-count indictment, which the tribunal made public last
Tuesday, charges Babic with ethnic cleansing committed as part of a
joint criminal enterprise the aim of which was to include
ethnically cleansed areas of Croatia, which made up about a third of
its territory, into a Serb-dominated state.
In December last year, Babic appeared before the tribunal as a
prosecution witness in the trial of former Yugoslav president
Slobodan Milosevic for war crimes in Croatia.
