Kaklamanis spoke to reporters after meeting Croatian President
Stjepan Mesic, who is on a three-day visit to Greece.
Kaklamanis voiced hope the countries of the region would cooperate
among each other and take part in the realisation of the "vision of
united Europe and a happier future for all".
"Our two countries, our two peoples and two governments are
cooperating, and we believe this cooperation will become even more
productive," he said.
"Croatia's objective is to achieve European standards as quickly as
possible and take part in European integration processes, and
Greece is helping us in these efforts," said President Mesic.
He added that the united Europe would resolve "most of our problems"
because it was pooling its resources, and that only "the united
Europe can be a partner to the U.S., China, India, and so on".
"At the summit in Thessaloniki the European Union confirmed that
all countries which met conditions would enter its ranks, namely
that one country should not wait for those that are late, but that
those going faster should be motivated," Mesic said.
He added that his talks with Kaklamanis also addressed the physical
connection among countries, and voiced confidence that the
Adriatic-Ionian Highway would soon link Croatia and Greece.
