ZAGREB, Nov 17 (Hina) - The Ministry of Defence on Monday made public the names of five active-service military personnel and civilian employees of the armed forces running in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, and the State Electoral Commission confirmed these persons were on lists of candidates.
ZAGREB, Nov 17 (Hina) - The Ministry of Defence on Monday made public the names of five active-service military personnel and civilian employees of the armed forces running in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, and the State Electoral Commission confirmed these persons were on lists of candidates. #L# The ministry said that there were an additional 11 active servicemen and civilian employees of the armed forces for whom it had not yet received a confirmation from the State Electoral Commission that they were running in the elections. The military prosecutor will press charges against these persons, after which disciplinary proceedings will be initiated before the Military Disciplinary Court, the ministry said in a statement. Under Article 11 of the Law on Service in the Armed Forces, active servicemen and civilian employees of the armed forces are not allowed to stand in elections for the Sabor, representative bodies of citizens or representative bodies of local or regional government units. Members of the armed forces are banned from participating in political gatherings or demonstrations, and making public statements on the situation in the armed forces without the approval of the defence minister or a person authorised by him or her.
