The GONG's activities regarding parliamentary elections,
announced for November 23, will be two-pronged. The organisation
will monitor the voting process throughout the country and will
launch educational projects to inform the public about election
rules, spokeswoman Ivna Bajsic has told Hina.
She added that the education of citizens would mainly be conducted
through the organisation's media campaign, including informative
commercials and promotional jingles about voter lists and
elections in general.
The organisation will prepare a brochure on elections, leaflets and
posters, and its activists will also be on telephone duty to answer
questions from members of the public regarding elections.
The GONG will monitor elections in all counties through monitors
posted at polling stations and mobile teams. It will also keep count
of ballots and analyse election results to ensure an additional
verification of the official results.
The organisation will hold several press conferences on election
day and will release the initial election results a few hours after
the closure of polling stations at 1900 hours.
The GONG was initiated prior to local elections in April 1997 by the
coordinating body of human rights organisations from all over
Croatia.
