Vaso Vujnovic presented the platform of Rijeka's Serb Community for
constituency no. 12, the one for national minorities. He said he
advocated a peaceful and dignified coexistence of Croats, Serbs and
all peoples in Croatia.
Presenting his platform, singer Sinisa Vuco, who is heading an
independent slate for constituency no. 9, told voters that if
elected he would "represent common people (in parliament),
unburdened by party pressure or orders from the central
committee".
Constituency no. 9 includes Lika-Senj, Zadar, Sibenik-Knin and the
western part of Split-Dalmatia counties.
Independent candidate Zeljko Cotic presented his slate for
constituency no. 10, stressing he advocated a Croatia relying on
youth, their ideas and programmes. Constituency no. 10 includes the
south of Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties.
Borivoj Bukva, a Serb national minority candidate on the Third
Croatian Bloc slate in constituency no. 12, called on voters not to
give their votes to the Croatian Democratic Union or the Social
Democratic Party. He asked them to vote for the third option, the
option of "knowledge and youth which will not allow the sale of
Croatia's national wealth".
Another independent candidate, Mirjana Nazor, who is running in
constituency no. 10, said her slate was comprised of members of the
non-governmental organisation "Alliance for Peace and Justice -
the Vote for Man", which was founded by academician Ivan Supek and
don Ivan Grubisic.
"The individual, not the political parties, must be the linchpin of
sovereignty, regardless of national background and world-view,"
she said.
The Croatian Party of Slavonia and Baranja advocates the
regionalisation of Croatia and the setting up of a ministry in
charge of the equal development of all Croatian regions, Damir
Janjic said presenting the party platform on Croatian Television.
The party formed a coaliton with the Croatian People's Party in
constituencies nos. 4 and 5 because the People's Party had shown
efficiency in development projects, Juric explained.
The president of the Party of Democratic Action, Semso Tankovic,
also presented his party programme, stressing that without a doubt
Bosnian Muslims were the minority most deprived of their rights.
His party is running in constituency no. 12. Three party candidates
are running for representatives of the Albanian, Bosnian Muslim,
Montenegrin, Macedonian and Slovene national minorities.
Stressing that Bosnian Muslims have election experience in
Croatia, Tankovic said that "in 1990 they voted against communism
and in 2000 against the Croatian Democratic Union whose rule made an
anti-cultural step by excluding the Bosnian Muslim and Slovene
minorities from the Croatian Constitution".
Tankovic said that at the upcoming election, Bosnian Muslims would
vote for their own representatives in Croatia's parliament.
Several more independent candidates presented their slates on
Croatian Television on Tuesday evening.
