Robertson said the two partner organisations were cooperating and
complementing each other, stressing that not a single
international organisation could any longer face new challenges to
security and stability alone.
The Secretary-General said the activities in the southeast of
Europe were a particularly good example.
A joint declaration of Albania, Croatia and Macedonia --
signatories to the Adriatic Charter -- was read out before the OSCE
Permanent Council, hailing Robertson's advocacy of keeping the
NATO's doors open to new members even after the next expansion
wave.
"We welcome the political, human and financial capital NATO has
invested in our region -- in our three countries. We are pleased to
say that the elements of NATO's approach to Southeast European
countries are the creation of true partnership and membership in
Euro-Atlantic associations as soon as possible," the joint
statement said.
Lord Robertson attended the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna for
the last time in his capacity as secretary-general. He will remain
in the position until early next year when Dutch Foreign Minister
Jaap De Hoop Scheffer succeeds him.
