Matek briefed the OSCE Permanent Council about war crimes trials in
Croatia and recent legislative changes, which even Del Ponte
commended.
The ambassador said Croatia felt some capitals did not value those
positive elements in a sufficiently objective way.
Matek said Croatia was disappointed with the persistent equation of
Bosnian Serbs Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic with Croatian
General Ante Gotovina, claiming that it was not historically
accurate.
The ambassador said it had transpired from some speeches at the OSCE
Permanent Council meeting that the international community would
strive for respecting the Hague tribunal's agenda. If those accused
do not appear before the U.N. tribunal, the international community
will step up pressure so that fugitives do, he said.
