ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Hina) - The National Election Commission announced shortly after midnight on Tuesday that it had received a total of 405 lists of candidates for parliamentary elections scheduled for November 23, including 363 party and
independent lists and 42 lists of candidates representing ethnic minorities.

405 lists of candidates for parliamentary elections scheduled for
November 23, including 363 party and independent lists and 42 lists

Of the 5,155 candidates, 3,859 or 74.86 per cent are men and 1,296 or
25.14 per cent women. Their average age is 45.95 years, the average
age of male candidates being 46.96 and that of female candidates
42.94 years. Both the youngest male and female candidates were born
in 1985. The oldest male candidate was born in 1917 and the oldest
female candidate in 1919.
Each parliamentary seat is being contested by 30 candidates.
The commission said that 4,006 candidates ran in previous
parliamentary elections in 2000.
The commission must approve and publish all valid lists of
candidates in daily newspapers within 48 hours, or no later than
midnight November 5.
The election campaign officially starts on November 6 with the
publication of collective lists for each constituency.
