BRUSSELS, Oct 29 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula and leading Croatian business people held a presentation on Croatian economy in Brussels on Wednesday. The presentation was aimed at providing European Commission
officials with more detailed information about Croatia's economic prospects in the context of its efforts to draw closer to the EU.
BRUSSELS, Oct 29 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula
and leading Croatian business people held a presentation on
Croatian economy in Brussels on Wednesday. The presentation was
aimed at providing European Commission officials with more
detailed information about Croatia's economic prospects in the
context of its efforts to draw closer to the EU. #L#
"Croatia has to a great extent already become part of the EU through
economy, but we are aware that membership depends on political
criteria," Picula told reporters.
The closed-door presentation, entitled "Croatia and the Croatian
Economy: Towards EU Membership", was held by the leading officials
of Pliva, Croatian Telecom, Podravka, Agrokor, Ericsson Nikola
Tesla, Eurocable, and Atlantic Group. They spoke about the
competitiveness of the Croatian economy, the business climate,
regional expansion, small and medium-sized businesses, and the
importance of EU candidacy for Croatia's economic development.
Croatian National Bank vice-governor Boris Vujcic spoke about
general economic indicators, the monetary policy, and the
financial system.
Picula and the business people on Tuesday met the EU's commissioner
for foreign relations, Chris Patten. Later today, the Croatian
delegation should attend a dinner and an informal meeting with the
EU's enlargement commissioner, Guenter Verheugen.
