According to the 2001 population census, 4,712 ethnic Slovaks live
in Croatia, mainly in and around the eastern towns of Osijek, Nasice
and Ilok.
Recapping his talks with his Slovak counterpart, Croatian
President Stjepan Mesic said Slovakia could use its experience to
help Croatia in the process of its integration into Euro-Atlantic
institutions.
Schuster said that Croatia could catch up and join the European
Union in 2007 along with Romania and Bulgaria.
