Minister Neven Mimica was speaking to reporters covering a two-day
regional conference on finance and investments, which began in the
southern Adriatic resort of Cavtat on Tuesday.
The third regional conference, organised by the British financial
magazine Euromoney, put an emphasis on European integration
processes.
The experience of countries that will enter the EU in 2004 shows
that regardless of changes caused by elections, it is best to keep
the same negotiating teams and stick to the scheduled activities
and deadlines, Mimica said.
There is political consensus in Croatia on the necessity for the
country to join the EU, and Mimica does not expect any change in this
regard after the elections. However, there are differences on some
issues such as cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal and
refugee returns which could result in extension of some deadlines,
the minister cautioned.
The conference on financial and investment potential of the
countries in the region has pooled ministry officials, bankers,
investors and business people from Croatia, Austria, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Serbia-Montenegro.
