The results were announced in Zagreb's central Ban Jelacic Square
by Stipe Oreskovic, head of the "Andrija Stampar" Public Health
School, which organised the breakfast throughout the country to
promote the importance of a balanced diet and health tourism.
The breakfast consisted of maize porridge, liquid yoghurt and
apples to reflect a balanced ratio of energy and nutrients typical
of the Croatian climate.
Defence minister Zeljka Antunovic, who participated in the event,
said that "this proves that there is no insurmountable challenge
for us."
Zagreb deputy mayor Milan Bandic said that residents of Zagreb
alone broke Taiwan's record by eating about 23,000 breakfasts.
The Guinness Book of Records lists a breakfast prepared in Taiwan in
2001 as the largest on record, involving 23,291 participants.
