The Guinness Book of Records lists a breakfast in Taiwan in 2001 as
the largest on record, involving 23,291 participants.
The event, called "The Largest Breakfast - Croatian Breakfast" will
take place in schoolhouses, homes for retired people, day-care
centres, military barracks and soup kitchens.
The purpose of the event, apart from breaking the world record, is
to draw attention to the importance of a balanced diet and breakfast
as an essential meal, and to promote health tourism in Croatia, the
head of the "Andrija Stampar" Public Health School, Stipe
Oreskovic, said.
He invited all citizens to come to the breakfast, which he said
would consist of maize porridge, liquid yoghurt and apples to
reflect a balanced ratio of energy and nutrients typical of the
Croatian climate.
The breakfast starts at nine o'clock sharp all over the country, and
all those interested are asked to come at least half an hour earlier
for registration purposes.
The central event will be held in Zagreb's Trg Bana Jelacica Square,
where around 3,000 people are expected.
During the breakfast, all participants must be seated, and after
the meal they will be given a certificate of participation and
appropriate gifts for the occasion.
The first unofficial results on the number of participants are
expected at midday.
