ZAGREB, Oct 18 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan commented on Saturday on a statement by Zlatko Tomcic, the president of the parliament dissolved yesterday, to the effect that he would request that the powers of the next president of parliament be expanded and his influence made equal to that of the President of the Republic and the PM.
#L# Racan said the matter could be discussed only if Tomcic meant giving more legislative powers to parliament and its president. "I hope Tomcic didn't mean that the president of the Croatian parliament should take over powers which, under the Constitution, belong to the President of the Republic or the executive authority. That would be too inventive even for Croatia," he told reporters at the end of a rally of his Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Zagreb. Asked if the SDP might form a pre-election coalition with Libra and the Liberal Party, Racan said the matter was under discussion and that the decision would be revealed next week. (hina) ha
