Adopting the amendments moved by the Committee on the Constitution,
Rule Book and Political System, parliament reduced the time for
campaigning coverage which is also obligatory for private
electronic media with national concession.
Croatian Television (HTV) will be obliged to present each slate
individually in a 45-minute broadcast, while private television
Nova TV will have to broadcast 15-minute shows.
Under the regulations, HTV is also obliged to air special 50-minute
shows for each electoral unit in which candidates will enter a
debate. Such shows on Nova TV will last only 20 minutes.
Commenting on objections from opposition parties, Constitution
Committee chairman Mato Arlovic said that obligations of private
electronic media were regulated by the Law on Electronic Media and
Electoral Law.
