Cacic said his ministry had become the chief Croatian partner for
projects implemented with the European Union.
The minister said he was given the green light for EUR8 million from
the CARDS programme for the 2002-4 period, of which 1.4 million have
started being used for the drafting of strategies and studies for
formerly war-struck areas, islands, and mountain areas.
He recalled that over the past three years, the government made a
number of major legislative changes at his ministry's initiative to
double or triple aforementioned areas' budgets.
Cacic said his ministry launched a EUR100 million project, which
parliament okayed last week, to improve infrastructure and housing
in formerly war-struck areas, which is carried out with the
European Investment Bank.
A programme to build 11 schools and gymnasiums on islands has been
launched in cooperation with the Council of Europe Development
Bank, the minister said.
Cacic added that after agriculture, regional policy was the key
component of EU activities, and that Croatia would adapt to EU
standards by strengthening regional development.
