Kalmeta said 6 October 1991 was one of the worst moments in the
attacks of the then JNA and Serb rebels on Zadar, which was "exposed
to assaults from the ground, sea and air".
"The future generations must know about your heroic role," Kalmeta
said addressing the war-time commanders of military and police
units. He called on them to continue cherishing enthusiasm,
friendship and unity.
The chairman of the city council, Davor Aras, also addressed the
gathered, urging them to remember "General Ante Gotovina, a hero".
"You are here in the townhall where his photo is displayed, bearing
witness to the fact that this city highly appreciates the Homeland
Defence War and the won freedom," Aras said.
