SNS leader Milan Djukic told a news conference that immediately
after Croatia gained its independence and the war began, many
citizens of Serb descent were left at the mercy of the ruling party
in the country.
"Many were sacked from jobs, evicted from flats or prosecuted only
because of their ethnic origin," the SNS president told the
conference.
Djukic went on to say that "it is evident that the intention of the
former authorities was to create a 'bearable' number of Serbs in
Croatia, which shows that ethnic cleansing was conducted".
According to him, the incumbent authorities tacitly ignored the
problem.
Djukic announced that the SNS would stand in the coming
parliamentary elections.
