ZAGREB, Oct 1 (Hina) - Croatia's parliament on Wednesday decided
with a majority vote to proclaim yesterday's debate on a new
privatisation law the first parliamentary reading, thus dismissing
the government's motion that the bill be discussed by urgent
procedure. #L#
The decision was proposed by parliament's Economy Committee and is
the result of yesterday's debate during which all clubs of deputies
agreed that the new law, which is very significant for Croatia's
economy, must not be adopted at the last session of the current
parliament and in pre-election time.
The "urgency" label was also removed from a bill on the Croatian
Property Fund which will manage all jobs previously conducted by
the Croatian Privatisation Fund, as well as from a bill on the take-
over of joint stock companies.
Parliament adopted a law on standardisation with a majority vote.
The law is aimed at adjusting Croatia's standards to those of the EU
and thus removing obstacles to the free flow of goods and services
on the market and protecting consumers from bad products and
services.
Also adopted was a law on metrology which stipulates the protection
of consumers and the environment and is also in line with EU
standards.
MPs adopted several decisions, among them Gordana Lukac-Koritnik
was appointed ombudswoman for gender equality.
