According to a press release issued by the Croatian foreign
ministry, the programme helps aspirants for membership in the
alliance to adjust their state administration and defence and
security system to NATO standards.
The Croatian annual programme contains concrete activities which
Zagreb is to undertake from autumn this year until summer next year
in political, defence, financial, security and legal areas
concerning its bid to enter NATO.
Croatia plans to work on resolving open issues with its neighbours,
improve bilateral ties and relay the experience it has gained in the
process of coming closer to NATO and the EU to Bosnia-Herzegovina
and Serbia-Montenegro.
It plans to train its contingents for engagement in future peace
missions of the UN, NATO and the EU.
According to the document, Croatia is taking on a more active role
in the protection of human rights, the return of refugees and
displaced persons, and the reconstruction of formerly war-torn
areas.
The document emphasises the importance of the ongoing reforms in
the judiciary and the military.
