Speaking at an HDZ assembly for the tenth constituency in Split,
Sanader said that irresponsible groups and individuals had done a
lot of damage to the party in the past, and that this must never
occur again.
He reiterated his claims about wire-tapping in Croatia, and that
the HDZ would win the Nov. 23 parliamentary elections.
Sanader slammed the government for announcing that it would
privatise Slobodna Dalmacija daily just two months ahead of the
ballot. He said the HDZ supported the privatisation of the
newspaper but added that the rush indicted the Social Democratic
Party knew it would lose the elections.
Sanader said the HDZ would speak more about its platform once the
official campaign began, but highlighted three key points --
restoring dignity to war veterans, supporting Croats in Bosnia, and
returning Croatian emigrants to the domestic political scene. The
incumbent government is punishing the diaspora because they always
supported the HDZ, he said.
His speech at the assembly before about 2,000 people was preceded by
addresses given by 13 senior party officials, who harshly blasted
the incumbent authorities.
Before the assembly, Sanader told a news conference that the Union
of Croatian Bloc (HB) War Veterans on the national level was moving
into the HDZ.
Sanader said veterans had realised after four years of being
humiliated by the current government at every step that only the HDZ
could give them the respect they deserved for creating Croatia. He
announced veterans in other counties which were members of the HB
party as well as non-partisan ones would join the HDZ in coming
days.
