Three projects were presented at the conference - "ADRI FISH",
"FISH LOG" and "CONNECT", in which Istria County participates.
The first project concerns the promotion of sustainable fishing in
the northern Adriatic, while the other two foresee the construction
of wholesale fish markets in Rijeka and Pula, their integration in
the electronic system of European wholesale markets, and the
promotion of fishing co-operatives.
Even though Istria accounts for one third of the total fish trade in
Croatia, its fishing industry is lagging behind in terms of
technology and organisation compared to EU countries, the head of
the county's agriculture and forestry department, Milan Antolovic,
said.
Antolovic believes that the projects should contribute to
sustainable development in the region. Over the next three years,
Istria County will invest 130,000 euro into the "ADRI FISH"
project, and it will be granted 500,000 euro from the "FISH LOG"
project for the construction of wholesale markets.
