"This form of protection of the Mediterranean and Adriatic is
supported by the European Commission, and we, too, hold a similar
opinion when it comes to the declaration of fishing zones," said
Sterle.
However, by conceding to a fishing zone, Slovenia does not agree to
Croatia declaring an economic zone in the Adriatic, because that
also includes the use of "other maritime resources", such as oil and
gas, he said.
"The declaration of any zone should be done in cooperation and with
the agreement of all neighbouring countries," said Sterle, state
secretary for fisheries at the Slovene agriculture ministry.
