ZAGREB, Sept 25 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday
formulated changes to the Penal Code introducing two forms of the
criminal act of slander. #L#
Under the changes, only deliberate slander, i.e. the intentional
presentation of untruths, will be penalised. Unintentional
slander, e.g. when reporters relay information they have heard of
without knowing if it is true, will not be penalised.
The government also formulated a bill on pardon, under which
appeals for pardon will no longer be submitted to courts but to the
Justice Ministry.
Decisions on granting pardon will be made by the President of the
Republic, as is the case at present, and they will be made public in
the Official Gazette.
The government forwarded to parliament the last set of four laws
related to the adjustment of domestic legislation to that of the EU.
The set includes laws on electronic trade, patents, industrial
design, and the right to have access to information.
