The EU was represented by political directors from the European
Commission and the European Council, Fernando Valenzula Marzo and
Robert Cooper, as well as representatives of the EU's current and
next chair, Italy and Ireland. The five SAp countries were
represented by the political directors of the foreign ministries of
Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia and
Albania.
Such meetings are a new mechanism, established at this year's
summit in Salonika, which was attended by EU countries, countries
in the process of joining the EU, candidates, and countries of the
SAp.
The meetings help maintain constant dialogue between SAp countries
and the EU Troika about global issues, and enable the SAp countries
to adjust their policy to that of the EU regarding issues of global
security and cooperation.
Croatia's representative, Assistant Foreign Minister Mario
Nobilo, said the meeting addressed Iraq, the fight against
terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, joint control of weapons
export and the adoption of a joint policy towards third crisis
spots.
