ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's Home Policy and
National Security Committee met behind closed doors on Wednesday to
discuss nominations for the seven-member Council for Civil Control
of Security Services, which is envisaged by the Law on Security
Services that was adopted two years ago. #L#
Committee chairman Ante Markov of the Peasant Party (HSS) said that
the final nominations would be determined next Tuesday. He added
that the Committee had received 27 applications and that all the
candidates had been screened.
Markov said that the complexity of screening procedures was the
reason why it had taken more than a year and a half to establish the
council.
Markov declined to answer the question whether all candidates met
the requirements, saying he did not want to mention the candidates'
names so as not to cause them any inconvenience.
