and his counterpart from Serbia and Montenegro Goran Svilanovic
said in New York on Monday that the two countries were successfully
solving problems in the bilateral relations. The two countries
should continue talks on the northern border they share in the next
month and a half, the two ministers agreed. #L#
Picula met Svilanovic on Monday, on the margins of the 58th UN
General Assembly in New York.
Picula told Croatian reporters he and Svilanovic agreed that last
year Zagreb and Belgrade successfully solved the majority of
problems that were hampering the two countries' relations, but that
some issues were still left to be solved and that it was "an
obligation of both countries to try and solve them as soon as
possible".
According to Picula, Svilanovic said that the apologies that the
Croatian and Serbia and Montenegro presidents exchanged during
Mesic's recent visit to Belgrade were received well.
The two countries need to continue to develop the bilateral
relations, despite the upcoming parliamentary elections in
Croatia, which most probably would not create space for stronger
initiatives in the foreign policy, Picula said.
He expects the two countries to resume talks on the northern border
in the next month and a half and try to create an atmosphere for
better understanding.
