ZAGREB, Sept 22 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Foreign Minister Tonino Picula arrived in New York on Sunday for the 58th regular session of the UN General Assembly.

On Monday, Mesic is scheduled to meet his Swiss counterpart Pascal
Couchepin and Open Society president George Soros. On Tuesday, he
is due to deliver a speech on the role of the UN in the world, and meet
the presidents of Albania and Peru later in the day.
Picula is supposed to address the part of the session devoted to
AIDS today. On Wednesday, he and seven other foreign ministers from
South-East Europe will meet US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Picula is also expected to meet Powell's assistant Marc Grossman
and the foreign ministers of Russia, Serbia-Montenegro, New
Zealand, Norway and Australia.
Mesic is expected to return to Zagreb on Wednesday and Picula on
Friday.
The U.N. General Assembly session, to last from 23 September to 3
October, will focus on the situation in Iraq, international
cooperation in combating terrorism, the Middle East crisis, reform
of the UN system, and its financing.
