ZAGREB, Sept 11 (Hina) - Croatia's parliament revised the government budget with a majority vote on Thursday. Under the amendments, some 2.4 billion kuna (EUR320 million) will be reallocated. #L# The government has said the revision will make it possible to reduce the deficit and indebtedness while not making it necessary to introduce new taxes or halt the implementation of projects. Under the revision, 400 million kuna is to be spent on recovering from this year's droughts, while 200 million is envisaged to encourage employment. Several hundred million will go for severance and back pays in the interior and defence ministries and the Armed Forces, for pensions in the republics of the former Yugoslavia, and for reforms in the military and judiciary. About 75 million is envisaged for coming parliamentary elections, several million for ethnic minorities' elections, Croatian troops in the Afghanistan peace mission, and firefighting aircraft, while 10 million will be allocated to the Development and Employment Fund. Also adopted today were amendments to the Law on the Execution of the Budget under which the government allocates 430 million for local self-government units which have asked the Finance Ministry to be allowed to incur debts for which servicing does not exceed 20 percent of revenues. Parliament also adopted a decision on the temporary funding of state bodies and other budget beneficiaries for the first three months of 2004 with which the government is trying to bridge the period between the coming parliamentary ballot and the constitution of new authorities.
