Samuel Zbogar, state secretary in the Slovene Foreign Ministry,
informed Luciene Chabason, coordinator of the Mediterranean Action
Plan of the UN Environment Programme, about the Croatian plan
during their talks in Ljubljana, the Slovene Foreign Ministry said
in a statement on Friday.
The two officials agreed on the importance of environmental
protection of the Adriatic.
Chabason said that there was a tacit agreement among Mediterranean
countries that exclusive economic zones should not be declared. He
also said that the situation in the Adriatic was particularly
sensitive because it was a half-closed sea.
Chabason welcomed Slovenia's initiative that a special conference
on the sustainable development of the Adriatic should be held at the
level of ministers of the environment and zoning from all
interested countries.
