LJUBLJANA, Aug 29 (Hina) - The Slovene Foreign Ministry on Friday
invited to talks the charge d'affaires of the Croatian Embassy in
Ljubljana, Zeljko Vukosav, diplomatic sources in Ljubljana stated
today. #L#
The sources stated that during the talks concern was voiced
regarding some "incorrect positions of Croatian representatives
towards Slovenia with regard to the issue of an exclusive economic
zone, which do not contribute to good neighbourly and friendly
relations between the two countries".
Regarding recent talks on the economic zone between Slovene
Ambassador Peter Bekes and Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan
Simonovic, it is stated that the Croatian Foreign Ministry's
statement issued after the meeting "presented some facts in a one-
sided manner".
"Considering the statement that the war of notes should be ended, we
can say that there had been no such thing and that notes are a common
way of communication between countries. Slovenia will use them to
respond to any actions which could harm its vital interests," reads
the Slovene ministry's statement.
During the talks, Vukosav was informed about the contents of a
letter EU Commissioner Franz Fischler sent to Slovene Foreign
Minister Dimitrij Rupel with regard to the economic zone, in which
he stressed that "the EU excludes the possibility of any unilateral
move in that regard", the statement read.
It also reiterated positions from previous statements about
Slovenia's stand regarding the proclamation of an exclusive
economic zone by Croatia.
"We resolutely dismiss the position that the agreement on the
border has no legal connection with the proclamation of the
economic zone, because the proclamation of the economic zone
requires the final ratification of an agreement on the sea border,"
Slovene officials said.
They again proposed that the heads of the two ministries' legal
services hold a meeting in Ljubljana on September 16 as "the most
suitable way for Slovenia to become officially acquainted with
Croatia's intention to declare an economic zone".
