According to the fire officials, 22 fires have broken out in Sibenik-Knin County in the last two days, consuming more than 1,000 hectares of pine forest, underbrush and crops. Several abandoned houses also burnt. The firefighters were assisted by three firefighting planes and a helicopter. A fire that has broken out between Donji Lapac and Nebljus, about 180 km south of Zagreb, has been brought under control, but more than 170 firefighters are still at the scene making sure that it does not spread, local fire officials said on Sunday. The blaze has caused extensive damage to power transmission lines, and regional power company workers are in the field repairing the damage. About 50 households are still without electricity. Also in Lika-Senj County, a fire has been burning for the fourth day in the Klenovac area and the Marina Glava hill. The area is partly covered with land mines left over from the 1990s war, which is making it difficult for firefighters to put the fire out. The fire that broke out near the village of Trgovi in the municipality of Dvor on Saturday resumed near the village of Gage on Sunday morning, the National Information Centre reported, adding that the fire has been brought under control. A fire also erupted in the village of Radasnica in the municipality of Dvor on Sunday morning, but firefighters were unable to reach the area because of land mines. (hina) vm
