PODGORICA, Aug 23 (Hina) - While most media in the Montenegrin
capital of Podgorica described Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's
recent visit as very significant for the development of the two
countries' relations, opposition parties from the so-called
Serbian bloc were critical. #L#
They accused the incumbent authorities of "using Mesic to support
and promote the idea of independent Montenegro", and reproached the
Croatian president for "interfering in Serbia and Montenegro's
internal affairs".
The spokesman for the Serb People's Party, Jovan Vucurovic, said it
was more than puzzling that Mesic was not received by Serbia and
Montenegro (SCG) President Svetozar Marovic.
Vucurovic wondered why Mesic consented to such an arrangement,
"directly participating in causing a diplomatic scandal and
creating an unhealthy atmosphere in Boka Kotorska and the region".
He accused Mesic of slighting official SCG bodies and interfering
in internal affairs, and said that alongside the Albanian lobby in
Kosovo, certain political structures from Croatia were the most
vociferous advocates of independent Montenegro.
The Socialist People's Party criticised Montenegrin Prime Minister
Milo Djukanovic for describing Mesic's visit to Boka Kotorska
yesterday as historic despite statements from his office that the
visit was unofficial and informal.
The Podgorica daily Dan, which is close to the two parties, reported
about extraordinary security measures during the visit.
