ZAGREB, Aug 11 (Hina) - A rainless storm accompanied by thunderbolts, which on Monday afternoon hit the northern Adriatic peninsula of Istria, caused as many as eight fires on Mt. Ucka, of which three were contained by 6 pm.

thunderbolts, which on Monday afternoon hit the northern Adriatic
peninsula of Istria, caused as many as eight fires on Mt. Ucka, of
which three were contained by 6 pm. #L#
The fires, which are consuming pine forests and underbrush on
inaccessible mountainous terrain, are being fought by professional
firefighting units and volunteers from Istria County. They are
assisted by a canadair.
A fire which broke out this afternoon around 4 pm between Vodice and
Tribunje in central Dalmatia was localised after one hour. Four
hectares of underbrush and some pines were burned in the fire.
A "yugo 55" which spontaneously combusted caused last night's fire
in abandoned olive groves in the area of Gornji Tucepi near Makarska
in central Dalmatia. The fire, which was contained quickly,
consumed around 1.5 hectares of underbrush and abandoned olive
groves.
According to this morning's report from the State Firefighting
Operative Centre, the fires which broke out yesterday in Sibenik-
Knin County, near Lake Vrana in Zadar County and on the island of
Ciovo have been contained. Around 12 hectares of grass and oak
forest were consumed by fire.
