PM: NO AGREEMENT ON BORDER WITH CROATIA MEANS NO ECONOMIC ZONE

LJUBLJANA, Aug 11 (Hina) - Slovene Prime Minister Anton Rop told reporters in Ljubljana Monday it was impossible to speak about the declaration of an economic zone in the Adriatic before the border between Slovenia and Croatia was defined. He added Slovenia would adamantly oppose Croatia's possible unilateral decision to proclaim such a zone.
#L# "I was glad to hear Croatian Premier (Ivica Racan) say that Croatia would base its actions on previous agreement with neighbouring countries, including Slovenia," Rop said and added that Croatia's initiative to establish an Exclusive Economic Zone was problematic because "the border between Slovenia and Croatia should be definitely agreed on" before establishing the zone. The two countries should reach agreement on the border before an economic belt is proclaimed, regardless of whether Croatia's initiative concerns the economic, ecological or fishing aspect of protecting its waters, he said. Slovenia is interested in the ecological protection of the Adriatic and its balanced use, which can be achieved exclusively on the basis of cooperation among all Adriatic countries, said Rop.
