Charles Brayshaw, Acting UN Civil Administrator for Kosovo, today
most strongly denounced the murder of the policeman who was killed
on duty when he was ambushed on a road in northern Kosovo shortly
before midnight on Sunday. The officer was in a vehicle with visible
UN police insignia.
Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova condemned the murder, saying that
it was an act of extremists who did not want to see progress in
Kosovo.
The Kosovo government issued a special statement deploring the
murder and expressing full support for the international police
commissioner in Kosovo, Stephen Feller, and international police
in their efforts to establish peace and order and fight crime in
Kosovo.
The murder was also condemned by all leading Kosovo Albanian
political parties and local Serb leaders.
