"The Trade Union cannot wait anymore. We have no other option left
but to demand payment of our wages through a strike," Bacinovic told
Hina.
He accused the government of being "socially insensitive" because
it failed to discuss the problems of the shipyard at its session
today. About 1,200 workers have not received their June wages and 37
percent of their wages for May.
Creditor banks and shipyard owners signed an agreement on Tuesday
for the financial restructuring and completion of investment in the
ailing shipyard.
Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic said on Wednesday that those funds
could be expected in October at the earliest. "Unless six or seven
million dollars is secured for regular operations and wages until
the agreement between creditor banks and owners becomes effective,
it will be hard to avoid bankruptcy," he said.
Jurcic said that the government had proposed that the Croatian Bank
for Reconstruction and Development, the owners and the creditor
banks sign an agreement to secure six or seven million dollars in
order to help the shipyard get over the crisis until October.
