KOSTRENA, July 21 (Hina) - The Croatian Metal Workers' Union's
branch in the ailing Viktor Lenac shipyard will stage a one-hour
warning strike on Wednesday, union representative Damir Bacinovic
said on Monday. #L#
By staging the strike between 10 and 11 a.m. on July 23, the union
will show workers' discontent with unpaid salaries and give the
management board another chance to meet workers' demands, said
Bacinovic. "After that, we shall be on strike until our demands are
met."
He said the union was not happy with the decisions the Viktor Lenac
shipyard adopted today because workers' demands were not
discussed.
A Conciliation Council which is trying to broker an agreement
between the management board and the union in bids to avert a strike
was also in session today. Bacinovic said a representative of the
employer did not accept the union's demand that the remaining 37
percent of May's wages and the first part of the June wages be paid
by July 31.
The union expects the second part of the June salary and the entire
July salary to be paid by August 15.
