ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - Regarding a success in combating software piracy, Croatia has been the third-ranked among east European countries, according to results of a study in the 2002 illegal use of software programmes of leading
software manufactures, pooled in Business Software Alliance.

piracy, Croatia has been the third-ranked among east European
countries, according to results of a study in the 2002 illegal use
of software programmes of leading software manufactures, pooled in
Business Software Alliance. #L#
The study was conducted by IPR (International Planning and Research
Corp.) which gathered data on the sale of business software of 26
different manufactures and on the demand for new software products
and their legal offer.
Croatia managed to curb software piracy by 28 percent since 1994
when the sale of illegal software in Croatia accounted for 90
percent to 62 percent in 2002.
The most successful eastern European country in the fight against
software piracy is Slovenia with software piracy rate falling by 37
percent from 96 percent in 1994 to 59 percent last year. Slovenia is
followed by Hungary with a fall from the software piracy rate of 76
percent in 1994 to the 45-percent rate in 2002.
In the said period the most unsuccessful countries were Russia and
Ukraine with a fall of only six percent in the sale of illegal
software.
Eastern Europe as a region has a 14-percent fall from 85-percent
software piracy rate in 1994 to 71 percent in 2002.
