The government intends to increase funding in the future so as to
significantly reduce the number of illiterate people in five to six
years' time.
One-fifth of Croatia's population above 15 has not finished primary
school, while another fifth has only primary education, Strugar
said at the People's Open Learning Institution in Zagreb.
People's open learning institutions focus on the education of
adults but the government wishes to step up the institutions' work
by becoming engaged in UNESCO's Literacy Decade.
